Description
A lover promises the beloved that he would not make her pass on the hot mountain ridges, nor under the trees where leaves fall, but on the temperate hillsides where he alone can touch her. A lover’s promise of good and tender care for his future bride.
Translation
I don’t make my relative pass the ridge of the hill Because there the sun is too hot. I don’t make my relative pass through the ravine Lest a leaf fall upon her. I make her walk on the hillside, away from the sun Where I think there is ample shade, Where no one can touch her other than me.

Description
A future bride’s apology to the future groom for her weakness with the hope that he should not marry her with much expectations.
Translation
Do not trust your eyes, do not trust your sight. You do yourself wrong by choosing me To be your bride – I, who cannot go twice In a day to work on your father’s and mother’s wide farms Though they be no farther than the edge of town. I, who am not strong enough to drag The vinwa leaf I eat my meals on, nor turn On its side my viand, the tiniest fish – the yuyunu, Because among womankind, you will not find a weaker one.

MADIMAN KA TA HAVAG KA NU MAYLIPULIPUS

“Madiman ka ta havag ka nu maylipulipus,” A kwan aku ni ama ko, as kwan aku ni luyna ku! Madiman aku su bekbek aya richurichuhen Ta pidañitañisay da nu nadpun a kadedevan, As payduyusuyutay ñi mayalkem du vahay, Ta tayangdet a mingaviñab du anak, Du anak nu kaydian.

Description
A young person’s services at home have not been appreciated, and instead, his parents have told him he was better dead; so, he challenges the “old man of the house” to find another person, or perhaps order the piece of board at the foot of his bed to serve him and see if the board would obey his command. The complaint of a young person who has worked in the service of an old relative, but who has received neither appreciation nor gratitude but maltreatment instead for his pains. It is a social lament complaining specifically against oral insult from immediate kin. Theme: The service of relatives is to be appreciated above that of strangers, and it is to kinsmen one owes priority of appreciation and kindness.
Translation
“You were better dead, disgrace of the family,” My father says to me, and my mother says to me. Let me die suddenly, and without ceremony So that all my friends will weep for me, So that the old man of the house will rejoice Having said so much against me; Having so much against me.
Try another from among the children of the town To serve you fire, to serve you water, And see how many months he will endure serving you! Order, therefore, the board at the foot of your bed To serve you fire, to serve you water – and see How quickly it will get up!
MAKARANG DANA KANU KAMPANARYO
Carmen Velez Delatado (Ivana)
Laji: Anu Maddaw Ka Mu Lipus (1997)
Dr. Florentino H. Hornedo
Makarang dana kanu kampanaryo du Diwan Si minayras a paru diyaken nu kaydian; Maidangpu ko ava a manahan du rarahan, Dahmet ko a mipavatas du rakuh a rarahan. Ñiya rapakunu a mayukay si manawa na di Itbayat A mapayduminali su manawa na di Turun, Ma’y a menepenet du kapapasawan da nu Taywara dana ya su kapayñangaviñab Diyaken du kaydian, diyaken du kaydian.
Description
This song speaks of someone who has been calumniated, and he/she invokes the forces of evil to “stop the breath” of his calumniators. Dropping by to invite along another fatal power so that the two of them – now doubly fatal – would accomplish their evil mission. Theme: In the good society, calumny and slander are hateful and evil. They should be punishable by an evil death.
Translation
Higher than the bell tower of Diwan Is the piled-up wrongdoing my townsmen accuse me of; Is too heavy for the road, It weighs me down when I walk on the main street. May the deadly curse of Itbayat come to life And dash itself against the curse of Turun Shutting the breath from those Who are blabbering too much About me among my townsmen, about me among my townsmen.

Sinavung ka paru ñinuy? Manganak ka paru ñinuy Si du chu’s makadidiwi si saluval ko du araw, Si di chu’s di makadidiwi su puhaw ko du ahep, Si pinamalapa ku su pahung du idaud, Si pinaysaysakung ku su ahed ñi Saluwan,

Translation
Whose blossom is this? Whose child is this Because of whom I do not mind distraction in the daytime, Because of whom I do not mind sleeplessness at night, For whom I have dared the breakers of the deep, For whom I have braved the waves of Saluwan,
For whom I crossed evil fields Where blinks the fires of haunting ghosts, Where glows the blood of murdered men, Where grates the dead’s funeral carriage, And where I take all my courage and put behind me?
